We are grateful for your participation in our 2020 Virtual Kids Walk. Below you will find the answers to the questions we commonly receive. If you do not see the answer to your question, please email us at kids@ccfsocal.org.

 

What does it mean to be a virtual walker?

It’s the next best thing to being together at the Annual Kids Walk. We call it #TogetherForGOLD — As a virtual walker, you’ll join hundreds of other participants all walking for the same cause around their neighborhoods.

Since we can’t all walk together in the same place, at the same time, we’ll get together virtually through your social media posts (more on that below). This is a first for all of us, so we’re providing tools and resources to help you succeed in raising critical funds, 100 percent of which go directly to support programs provided by Childhood Cancer Foundation.

CCFSoCal shifted to the virtual walk format in response to CDC guidelines around social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We value your health and wellbeing, so please stay safe by following the latest safety recommendations and by walking only in your neighborhood or in areas open to the public.


When am I supposed to walk?

The great thing about a virtual walk is that you can participate at anytime from anywhere!

Once registered, you can choose the date, time and location that works for you - we are encouraging participants to choose a day between September 1 - 13, 2020. Then, join other walkers online by posting photos and videos to your social media accounts.

I'm not registered but want to join as a virtual walker. What do I do?

Registration is easy! Visit our REGISTER page and click “register.” You will then be directed to the walk registration. You can walk as an individual, join an existing team or create a team of your own.


How much does it cost to register for this walk?

This event is FREE to participate.


I am already registered for this event. What do I do?

Fundraise! Pledge to walk a mile, raise money, win prizes and help our fighters!

Get the momentum going by recruiting family, friends and coworkers to join you in the walk to raise awareness of childhood cancer. Our hope is that you will join us in our efforts to meet our goal to raise $25,000 to support the hundreds of families each year who rely on these imperative support programs provided by Childhood Cancer Foundation. Don’t forget to take advantage of all the tools and resources we provide to help you succeed.

To thank our participants for raising money in support of our cancer fighters, we are offering incentive prizes for different fundraising levels. All prizes are cumulative — so the more you raise, the more prizes you'll receive!

Will the in-person walk be rescheduled?

We look forward to returning to the in-person walk in 2021.

How do I join the conversation on social media?

All you need to do is post about your participation in the Virtual Kids Walk on your personal social media accounts.

We want to see your photos and videos so to help us find your posts, be sure to tag us:

Hashtags are another way we can find your posts, so try to include at least one of the following: #TogetherForGOLD #2020KidsWalk #CCFSoCal.

Will I receive a t-shirt?

Meet the first fundraising goal of $25 raised and you receive an "I'm walking for Childhood Cancer Awareness" Kids Walk t-shirt. To thank our participants for raising money in support of our cancer fighters, we are offering incentive prizes for different fundraising levels. All prizes are cumulative — so the more you raise, the more prizes you'll receive!

How far should I walk?

We are asking our virtual walkers to go the extra mile for children diagnosed with cancer.

Beginning September 1st through the 13th – pick any day (or every day!) to get your mile in. Whether it’s a bit each day totaling a mile, or a commitment of a mile a day – make sure to get that last lap in by September 13th!


What do I get with my registration?

We will send out a Kids Walk race bib for you to print from home by August 30th. Pin it on, snap some photos and share on social media as you are out in your neighborhood walking, running or riding your way through your mile walk.

Why September?

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Join us and our community of supporters as we rally together to walk, run or ride  in  support of all those touched by childhood cancer.


Why do I need to finish my walk on September 13?

Join us as we go LIVE on our social media channels Sunday, September 13th to conclude our Virtual Kids Walk from 10am - 12pm PST. We will go LIVE to celebrate and share posts of all those who have participated in going the extra mile for children diagnosed with cancer.

We will also announce award winners (more on that below) and our fundraising total at the conclusion of the LIVE Broadcast. Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram!


What are the awards?

We want to recognize all of those who join in our efforts to go the extra mile for children diagnosed with cancer.

Awards will be presented for:
• Youngest Registered Walker
• Oldest Registered Walker
• Largest Team
• Most Donations received by a team
1st, 2nd & 3rd Place

Award winners will be announced on September 13th during a LIVE broadcast from 10am -12pm PST on our social media channels. Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram!
