Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Honoree

annais valle

B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Patient

Annais spent a lot of her infant life very sick, but more so after turning 2 years old. In January of 2021 her parents spent weeks and weeks trying to get answers. The medical teams were baffled and could not pin-point the reason for her being constantly sick.

Three weeks went by and her mother began to insist they do an ultrasound of her belly. They found something in the ultrasound and rushed her into surgery the following day. Recovery was a difficult road, Annais had to relearn how to walk on her own.

After a few months, again Annais started to exibit behaviors that were alarming. She was no longer herself anymore. She lost weight and had so many bruises on her legs, she slept a lot and had no energy for any activities. And she no longer wanted to eat any more. There was an additional surgery scheduled for her, and prior to the surgery they required lab work to screen her prior to surgery. Her parents were asked to bring her to the hospital immediately following the required blood work, and that’s when they received the news. Annais was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

The cancer journey has been a roller coaster of highs and lows, but that has never stopped Annais from being the light that shines through. She is a hero to her family and has helped all of them through the process of childhood cancer life.
