Dylan Berry: A Goalkeeper with a Fighter’s Heart

On a sunny spring day, April 17, 2014, Dylan Berry came into the world already destined to bring joy to those around him. A magnetic kid with a fun-loving spirit, Dylan quickly became the heart of his family—the adventurous little brother to his older sister Audrey, a neighborhood favorite, and a friend to everyone he met.

Before cancer touched his life, Dylan was like any other energetic 10-year-old. He loved riding bikes through the neighborhood with his friends, getting lost in his video games, and standing strong in the soccer goal as the fearless goalie for his local team. He had a natural ability to connect with people, a smile that could brighten anyone’s day, and a zest for life that was as infectious as it was inspiring.

But life took an unexpected turn the day his mother discovered a tumor. Dylan had shown no signs—no symptoms, no complaints. One moment he was playing soccer, the next they were hearing the unimaginable: Dylan was diagnosed with B-Cell lymphoma.

Just when the family thought they could find their footing again, a second diagnosis followed—CNS lymphoma. It was devastating. The disease didn’t just attack his body, it changed the rhythm of his everyday life. Dylan could no longer walk, run, or even lift a spoon to his mouth. The once unstoppable boy who loved to guard the goal was now fighting a battle far beyond the soccer field.

Yet through it all, Dylan’s spirit remains unbroken.

Despite the physical limitations, despite the painful challenges and uncertain days, Dylan remains the most positive, upbeat kid his family knows. His confidence may have been shaken, but not his will. Not his light.

Dylan’s wish is simple: to feel normal again. To run, jump, and play like he used to. To be the goalkeeper once more—this time, not just on the soccer field, but in his own life.

His story is not just one of illness—it’s one of resilience, love, and the incredible strength of a child who refuses to give up. Dylan Berry is more than a cancer patient; he is a hero. And for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, his courage stands as a beacon of hope for all children and families walking through the same darkness.
