Angelo Ontiveros: The Braveheart of Two Battles

Born on September 18, 2014, Angelo Ontiveros has always been a bright light—playful, full of energy, and endlessly curious. Whether he was outside running around, playing soccer with a big grin, swimming with his cousins, or diving into his favorite subject—history—Angelo lived every moment with excitement. School was more than just a place to learn; it was where he thrived alongside his peers, where his spark shined the brightest.

But in 2024, everything changed.

His mom noticed something—a bump near Angelo’s left eye. At first, it seemed like something small. A routine visit to his primary care doctor led to a referral, then a specialist, and then—a devastating diagnosis: Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer.

Angelo faced treatment with a bravery well beyond his nine years. Chemotherapy, surgery, proton radiation—he endured it all. He rang the bell when treatment ended, and his family breathed a sigh of relief, thinking the worst was behind them.

But cancer doesn’t always follow the rules.

In June 2025, just as Angelo began rediscovering his rhythm in life, the cancer came back. It was the moment no parent, no sibling, no child should ever have to face again. The family was heartbroken. They cried, they held each other tightly, and then they made a promise—to be strong for Angelo.

Through it all, Angelo’s strength has never wavered. He’s fighting again, not just for himself, but for his siblings Iris and Victor, who watch him with admiration, and for the family that surrounds him with unwavering love.

This time around, the journey is just as hard—but Angelo is just as courageous. He still smiles, still holds onto the joy of being with his cousins, and still asks questions about history. He still dreams.

Angelo’s story is far from over, but one thing is clear: he’s not giving up, and neither is his family.
