Adriel Rodriguez: A Real-Life Superhero

Before his cancer journey began, Adriel Rodriguez was a bright, adventurous two-year-old who loved being outside, riding his tricycle, and pretending to save the world in his Iron Man mask. He had a big imagination and an even bigger heart—his joy was infectious, and his energy was endless. Whether he was chasing after his siblings or quoting lines from Spider-Man, Adriel was living his toddler years to the fullest.

His cancer diagnosis came without warning.

Adriel had shown no symptoms until his parents noticed his skin looked pale, almost yellow, and that he had swollen lymph nodes behind his ears. He also seemed to sleep more than usual. Trusting their instincts, they took him to the pediatrician for bloodwork. The very next morning, they received a call urging them to go to the emergency room immediately. By the following day, Adriel was diagnosed with leukemia—and from that moment on, their lives were forever changed.

“Once we went to the hospital, we never came out again.”

Adriel spent months in the hospital. He missed Christmas with his family, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his siblings couldn’t visit him for a long time. This separation was devastating. He couldn’t play in the sand, go outside, or ride his beloved tricycle. His immune system was so fragile that even everyday joys had to be put on hold. Treatment was tough—he lost his hair, he lost weight, and he had to relearn how to walk and pedal again.

It was heartbreaking for his family, especially his siblings, to watch him go through such drastic changes. But no matter how hard the days were, Adriel never gave up.

Even through chemotherapy, isolation, and physical therapy, he kept smiling. He held on to his superhero spirit. His Iron Man and Spider-Man costumes became more than just play—they became armor. And Adriel? He became the kind of hero every comic book wishes it could capture.

Today, Adriel continues to inspire everyone around him with his courage and determination. He’s a symbol of strength not just for his family, but for every child who’s ever had to fight something much bigger than themselves.
