raymound balino lopez

B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Patient

Raymound was in school just before getting diagnosed. But he only went to school for the first 2 weeks of the school year before starting to present with symptoms. It was originally believed to be growing pains.

He did not have the chance to play any sports but he loves watching Cristiano Ronaldo play, that’s his favorite soccer player. He loves to play video games and also loves to go to school and enjoys math.

His symptoms included bone pain, which doctors believed were growing pains. He was also vomiting, had fevers, swollen feet and hands, and he was not able to eat. He ultimately lost movement and was not able to walk at all.

After 4 hospital visits and a two-week hospital stay, a doctor did a bone marrow biopsy and that’s where they found it.  They gave us the news that Raymound had cancer. Until that day, the cancer would not show on blood work or on lumbar punctures.

He is now doing great with treatments. He wishes he was a normal kid that didn’t have to go to clinic visits so often and drink nasty medication, but he is a fighter.

He is most looking forward to being a normal kid again that can play without having to worry about getting hit or injured on his port. He is also most excited for the day when he has no more clinic visits or medication he has to take.
