Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Hero

yaretzi quintanilla

Acute Promyeloctic Leukemia

Patient

Hello, I am momma of the bravest, most selfless girl I know. Yaretzi is my 16 year old princess, my only girl. She lives with me, her two brothers and her dad.

On February 28, 2023 our world came crashing down when our baby was diagnosed with Acute Promyeloctic Leukemia. Because of her complicated medical condition, she required immediate and intensive treatment. We were blessed and will be forever grateful to have been given the opportunity to stay at Ronald McDonald House near the hospital where she is receiving treatment 5 times a week, and on some days up to 5 hours a day.

Watching my baby go through tests, labs, and chemotherapy has been extremely difficult, scary, and emotional for us because although she is 16 she is still my baby. It was hard knowing that my princess has cancer. I had to stop working to be with her at all times. It breaks my heart to see her depressed and hear her say she doesn’t feel beautiful. Her body is changing in ways that scare her, but she is my sweet girl who has been nothing short of a warrior and is keeping her head high.

She loves being with her family and spending time with her cousins.
